Officers from the Newtown Police Department were dispatched at approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23 to the area of South Main Street and Bears Hill Road to search for a stolen vehicle.

According to police, a blue Toyota Highlander had been reported stolen out of Greenwich the previous night and was involved in a chase with police in Bridgeport, last seen on Route 25.

While checking the area, officers spotted the Highlander on South Main Street near Pecks Lane and began to follow. The driver - later identified as 18-year-old Bridgeport resident Cameron David King - then took a right onto Wasserman Way, and when officers attempted to pull him over, he sped away, heading westbound.

Police said that just before exit 11, King went off the road and hit the guardrail, coming to a stop. With the Highlander disabled, King took off on foot on Wasserman Way, taking officers on a short chase before he was apprehended.

King was arrested and charged with larceny, engaging police in pursuit, reckless endangerment, traveling too fast for conditions, reckless driving, restricted turn, failure to maintain lane of travel and interfering or resisting police. King is currently being held in lieu of $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court this week.
